Ancient Sport and Spectacle is a searchable repository of images of athletics in the Greek and Roman world. It is designed for students, teachers and scholars. We present images from a variety of open access sources, such as museums, but also our own photos, and those kindly supplied by colleagues, along with varying amounts of information and in some cases, bibliography, for each image. This is an evolving repository: we intend to add more images and accurate information.

You do not need a username and password to search for an image. Just enter a search term (e.g. boxer, Panathenaic amphora, amphtitheatre); next, click on a thumbnail. Below the expanded image, click on Details for more information about the object. If you'd like to browse the collection click here

If you wish to use any of the images for teaching and research please follow all copyright regulations as indicated in the details of each image. Most are under Creative Commons licenses and require that you give proper attribution to the photographer and follow all other licensing conditions.
